Meet our Missionary Leader
Jae Euk Kim
Member Since 2004, Good Spoon Visionary Leader

Dear beloved friends, Warm greetings in the name of our Lord. Good Spoon Mission began in 2004 in Annandale with a heart for the urban poor. Now, 21 years later, we are humbled and grateful to serve over 35,000 people every year with the love and Word of God. This has only been possible by God's grace and the faithful support of the Korean-American community. Our vision is simple yet profound—Gospel, Service, and Joy. Through what we call "G.S.J" we seek to share the good news of Jesus and His compassionate love with the marginalized in the D.C, Maryland, and Virginia area. By providing both physical aid and spiritual care, we strive to bring hope into the lives of the poor and neglected. It is our greatest joy to be the hands and feet of Jesus, drawing near to those in need and witnessing the expansion of God's kingdom. We invite you to walk with us, pray with us, and rejoice with us. With love and gratitude in Christ. Lead Pastor - Jae Euk Kim, Good Spoon.
Our History
In the spring of 2004, on the streets of Northern Virginia, a small act of love gave birth to what would become Good Spoon Mission. A bowl of soup offered to a Latino day laborer was not just food—it was a message: 'You are seen. You are loved. God has not forgotten you.' From that humble beginning, we launched weekly street feeding services and began reaching out to the marginalized, the homeless, and immigrant communities. Soon, God opened doors beyond food—leading us into medical missions, legal aid, education, and spiritual discipleship. Our mission was never just charity. It was always about restoring dignity and proclaiming the Gospel.
Growing with the Community
Between 2004 and 2006, our small acts of kindness quickly evolved into structured programs. We began regular street-feeding missions, opened our first mission center, and introduced critical health services, including free medical care through our Good Spoon Good Doctor program. Recognizing the deeper needs of our community, we expanded services to include winter clothing distributions, legal assistance, and emergency medical interventions, such as urgently helping young Miguel with life-saving medical care. By 2007, our commitment deepened as we launched educational initiatives—English, Korean, and computer classes—to equip individuals with essential life skills. We also established the Good Spoon Latino Church, creating a nurturing community of faith, and opened the Brothers' Home to provide shelter, discipleship, and hope to those without homes.
Recognition and Milestones
Our dedication and impact began receiving significant recognition. In December 2007, Pastor Jae Euk Kim received the Presidential Volunteer Award, highlighting the transformative impact of our mission. In 2008, we mobilized over 600 volunteers to provide street feeding and medical care to more than 20,000 people, further emphasizing our deep community engagement. Good Spoon consistently pushed boundaries in caring for the vulnerable. By 2008, we introduced car donation programs, educational learning centers, and a thrift store. Additionally, we established critical hygiene facilities, including free showers for homeless individuals, demonstrating our holistic approach to care.
A Decade of Dedication
By 2014, our work had expanded significantly, serving as a vital voice and advocate for marginalized communities. Our annual Good Spoon Awards became a cherished tradition, celebrating racial harmony, volunteerism, and humanitarian efforts. Collaborations with local organizations, including embassies and educational academies like the And Good Academy, allowed us to extend our reach further. We also responded to social injustices, advocating for fair treatment of Latino laborers facing wage disputes and supporting grieving families during tragic losses in our communities.
Looking Forward: A Vision of Hope
Today, as we reflect on nearly two decades of service, our vision remains clear: to compassionately serve, empower, and uplift every individual and community we reach. Our goal is ambitious yet achievable: by continually expanding educational programs, health care access, community support, and advocating for justice, we aim to transform lives and foster sustainable hope. Join us on this ongoing journey of faith, compassion, and community. Together, we believe a future filled with hope, dignity, and opportunity for all is truly possible.
